Melvin Lee Boyd, 89, a longtime resident of Granville County passed away Friday, August 28, 2015 at Granville House.

A native of Mecklenburg County, Virginia, he was the son of the late Reuben Lee Boyd and Hallie Jones. He was of the Baptist Faith. He worked at J.F.D. Manufacturing and retired from the Department of Transportation. He was a faithful member of the Granville County Rescue Squad.

Funeral services will be conducted at Eakes Funeral Home Chapel in Oxford at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, August 30, 2015 by Dr. Randy Pittman. Burial will be in Knott’s Grove Cemetery.

Surviving are a daughter, Cinderella Boyd Lyon (Laurie) of Sanford, a son, R. Wade Boyd (Barbara) of Goldston, two sisters; Alma B. Garrett of Henderson and Glenis Bothelo of Washington, D.C., a brother, Lewis Boyd of Roxboro, two granddaughters; Laurie Ann LeGrand and Jessica Boyd Sharon, four grandsons; Zac Lyon, Adam Boyd, Michael Boyd and Dusty Boyd, six great-granddaughers; Julianne LeGrand, Annabelle LeGrand, Adalyn Bowen, June Lyon, Clara Lyon and Olivia Boyd, two great-grandsons; Keat Lyon and Walker Boyd. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Finch Boyd and a son, Melvin Foster Boyd.

Visitation will be held Saturday evening, August 29, 2015 from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. at Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford.

Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to Treasurer, Providence Baptist Church, 4603 Old Rt. 75 Oxford, N.C. 27565.
